When Caroline Rpgers was fourteen years old, she kept a diary for the entire year of 1861. Her younger sister Emma had just died on December 25, 1860. The diary was alittle leather bond volume recording the daily life of a teenage girl, her family and friends during 1861. It tells of her goung to school (she attended West Cente School, which still exists), attending church, and the many visits fo family and friends. Local familesat the time such as Barnum, Knapp, Peck, Osborne, Brush, and Treadwell are often mentioned.
